‘Rosalinda’s’ Carla Abellana is available
If Carla Abellana gave up her corporate job immediately for a career in showbiz, her reason was simple – being cast as the star of GMA-7’s newest primetime soap opera “Rosalinda” is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
“I never planned to be an actress and I never planned to enter showbiz. It was really an impulsive decision but I know it was the right decision because I’m enjoying it already,” said an elated Carla during the press launch of “Rosalinda” recently.
Ms. Wilma Galvante, GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Entertainment, said that after Carla auditioned for the role of “Rosalinda,” they asked her to quit her job because they found her to be the perfect fit for Rosalinda. And since then, they’ve worked on Carla’s imaging, acting and in imbibing in her the character of “Rosalinda.”
“Now that the show is about to start, overwhelmed I think is the word to describe what I feel,” smiled Carla. “Nag-stop talaga ako from work. I was happy I had a normal life. Convenient po ang buhay ko but I know this was an opportunity I must grab!”
Her decision was also based on the fact that showbiz is not an easy industry to succeed in and “Rosalinda” was more than she expected as a newcomer in the entertainment business.
“It was really a very good opportunity for me especially now that a lot of people are unemployed and it’s hard to look for a job. And I’ve just been given a big job. I know there’s a lot of actresses who were willing to take such role so I told myself that this was the big break for me. This was a big blessing from God so why should I turn it down?” she proudly shared.
Also surprised about her decision to step into the limelight of showbiz were her grandmother, veteran actress Delia Razon (the mother of her mom, Rhea Reyes) and her father, former actor Rey “PJ” Abellana.
“They were surprised because we never considered showbiz before for me. But then they all became excited. They gave me pieces of advice. They both told me to be humble and to always smile especially since it’s fun to be in showbiz,” related Carla.
She also admitted that adjusting to a showbiz life from an ordinary life was hard. A self-confessed homebody, she now misses her family who she doesn’t get to see as often as before anymore.
“Actually, everything in showbiz was a challenge for me like adjusting to the role, adjusting to the story, to the showbiz lifestyle in terms of a hectic schedule and all the hair and make-up processes, to the other cast members and more. I’m just happy that everyone, including my directors Maryo J. Delos Reyes and Gil Tejada, and the whole cast were very nice to me,” she said.
But does she think she could adjust well to intrigues in showbiz?
“Like what I’ve said before, you won’t learn unless the intrigues are there. You can never prepare yourself fully for intrigues unless you’re really there. It is a matter of reacting to it, it’s your attitude towards intrigues,” she replied.
One of the intrigues she is facing at the moment is with her leading man, Geoff Eigenmann as Fernando Jose in the series. They are already being romantically linked to one another especially since both are said to be “certified singles.”
“It is flattering to be liked by somebody else,” blushed the actress after hearing that Geoff’s jaws dropped the first time he saw her. “He is very good and he guides me. There were times, it is true, that I was nervous, and Geoff would stay with me, talk to me and he’ll put me at ease.”
She stressed though that it’s still early to tell if something romantic would develop between them during the season of “Rosalinda.”
“I’m available and open. Ayaw kong maging hadlang yung ganun sa trabaho ko... he is mabait kahit sino pa yan kakausapin niya and bibigyan niya ng oras and attention. He is a gentleman talaga… I’m not closing myself to Geoff and height doesn’t matter because it is a matter of personality,” she explained.
Carla has had only two boyfriends. Her last one was a basketball player who she described to be understanding about her showbiz career.
“He actually encouraged me to pursue showbiz. So bilang respeto sa akin, sa oras at sa bagong career at sa bagong buhay ko, I need time for my new career. Bilang respeto I also have to give him his own time,” said Carla about her recent break-up with her boyfriend.
At the moment, Carla is enjoying her role as Rosalinda. She confessed that the character of Rosalinda has sunk into her as early as when they shot the show’s cinema plugs. Despite long working hours, she enjoys every taping day. For her, her workshops under Joel Lamangan gave her more confidence as an actress and made her comfortable about acting.
Does she see herself in Rosalinda?
“Yes. I think we have a lot of similarities. We’re both simple and we love our families very much. Kahit ano ipaglalaban niya ‘wag lang matapakan ang values and paniniwala niya.
She’ll really stand up for her family and for her friends. She is simple lang and hindi palaban pero once her family is involved that’s the time she steps up,” Carla described.
Airing on July 6 after “Zorro” in GMA-7’s primetime block, also in “Rosalinda” are Katrina Halili, Roderick Paulate, Sheryl Cruz, Ariel Rivera, Gary Estrada, Glydel Mercado, Jessa Zaragosa, Yul Servo, Sherilyn Reyes, Ryza Cenon, Mike Tan, Mart Escudero, Sheena Halili, Marco Alcaraz, Marky Lopez, Carlene Aguilar, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Gian Magdangal and Crystal Reyes.
“I’m really praying for the success of ‘Rosalinda.’ I admit that the pressure is there but at the same time enjoy na lang, take it one day at a time,” Carla said as she flashed her captivating Rosalinda smile!
